The National Institutes of Health defines strategic workforce planning as ‘the process of analyzing, forecasting and planning workforce supply and demand, assessing gaps, and determining targeted talent management interventions to ensure that an organization has the right people – with the right skills in the right places at the right time – to fulfill its mandate and strategic objectives.’ The ever- changing workforce landscape can make that process seem daunting. How can Primary Care Associations (PCAs) and Health Center Controlled Networks (HCCNs) support health centers in conducting strategic workforce planning effectively by applying it as a tool to meet the needs of today’s, tomorrow’s, and the future workforce? This session will explore the value of investment in developing a Comprehensive Workforce Plan and highlight important questions to ponder in that process. Additionally, this session will highlight the need for adaptability and flexibility in strategic workforce planning as well as feature examples of innovative organizational approaches to developing and implementing a Comprehensive Workforce Plan.

Objectives:
  • Recognize the value of investment in the development of a Comprehensive Workforce Plan.
  • Understand the need for ongoing review and adjustments of a Comprehensive Workforce Plan.
  • Explore innovative approaches to implementing a Comprehensive Workforce Plan.
