In the 1960s, community health centers were launched as new model for health care delivery. With roots in both the civil rights movement and the War on Poverty, the earliest health centers had the bold mission of improving the health not just of individuals, but of communities. This session will provide an overview of the origins and growth of the health center model, and the subsequent development of nationwide movement powered by mission and community engagement. As we gain a greater understanding of our history, we will be better prepared to advance the movement for the future!
