Health Workforce Diversity: Current State and Future Implications
Date
March 17, 2018
Diversity in the health center workforce is a factor to be considered in addressing racial and ethnic health disparities that continue to exist in the U.S. It is particularly of importance to health centers as they strive to provide culturally responsive and competent care.
In August 2017, HRSA’s Bureau of Health Workforce released a report on Sex, Race, and Ethnic Diversity of U.S. Health Occupations (2011-2015). What is the state of diversity in the health workforce? How are health centers attempting to achieve diversity in staffing? What barriers exist to strengthening diversity and how can they be minimized? This session will highlight the findings of the aforementioned report and explore efforts by selected health centers to meet the challenge of realizing and sustaining workforce diversity.
