Dr. James L. Coleman, Jr. is a 1986 graduate of Camden High School, a 1990 graduate of Winthrop University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education; a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology in May of 1992 and a Doctorate of Education degree in Health Education from the University of Tennessee in August of 1996. Dr. Coleman was employed with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Division of Adult and Community Health, Community Health and Program Services Branch, within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion as a Behavioral Scientist, working on efforts to eliminate health disparities through the social determinants of health at a global level. Currently he is the Chief Executive Officer with the G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center, Inc., located in Canton, Mississippi, with sites in Yazoo City, Belzoni and Carthage and 9 school-based sites. Dr. Coleman was named the 2022 Chief Executive Officer for the State of Mississippi by the Community Health Center Association of Mississippi.
