Joel Tanaka M.D.

Joel Tanaka serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Peak Vista Community Health Centers, an FQHC in Colorado serving approximately 79,000 patients. Prior to joining Peak Vista, he served as a Medical Director of Primary Care at the Veterans Health Administration in Colorado Springs and also held multiple leadership roles in the Army in Louisiana, Colorado, Maryland, North Carolina and Maryland, including Medical Director of a Warrior Transition Battalion, 7th Infantry Division Senior Medical Advisor to the Post Commander and Chief Medical Officer serving 11 clinics in a tri-state region including Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. A 26-year Army Veteran and Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, Dr. Tanaka earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences/Nuclear Engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point, and his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He enjoys traveling, running, taking pictures, fishing and skiing. He also enjoys and values family time with his wife, 3 sons and dog.
