Workforce development, retention, and recruitment are strategic issues in healthcare. Although a health center board’s only direct employee is the Chief Executive Officer, a board plays a significant role in addressing workforce challenges and opportunities through its strategy, oversight, and policy roles. This session will highlight some of the workforce challenges and opportunities health centers are experiencing, and share tips for boards to address these through strategic planning, budget approval, policy approval, and other forms of oversight. Panelists will discuss real world examples of how boards have addressed workforce during strategy, budgeting, and policy conversations. Federally-funded programs such as the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program will be referenced during the session.
