Carla Bettano

Carla Bettano is a senior health care executive and independent consultant with a track record of successfully leading complex, mission-critical business transformations. As a managed care leader and consultant, she is recognized as a “go-to” person for bringing major new business initiatives to fruition by collaborating on strategic plans and then orchestrating organization-wide resources to make them work. A skilled relationship-builder, she has effectively created and navigated multi-faceted, financially vital alliances and innovative collaborations with a variety of partners, from the market’s largest health care system to community health centers. She brings a passion for community-based health care innovation and for developing and implementing cost-effective programs and initiatives that have made a significant impact on the health of communities and individuals. Ms. Bettano is currently the Program Development Director for an innovative telehealth technology solution in which seven CHCs are using imaging technology to scan dermatological concerns which will be read by dermatology specialists. Through remote dermatology readings, CHCs are creating operational efficiencies, eliminating unnecessary specialty visits, improving patient satisfaction and overall cost. Prior to consulting, Ms. Bettano spent 16 years with Neighborhood Health Plan and held numerous leadership positions, serving most recently as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. She was appointed by the CEO to lead the strategic relationship and mission-critical affiliation with Partners HealthCare. At the same time, she was responsible for taking NHP’s community health center relationships and initiatives to a new level. As part of that effort, she developed, launched and branded the nationally recognized Partnership for Community Health initiative, providing $16 million in grants to community health centers over three years – including the first multi-center collaborative projects focused on innovation and operational excellence. Ms. Bettano played a key role in navigating and guiding NHP through adaptation to Massachusetts health care reform. She served as NHP’s Diversity Committee Co-Chair from 2012 to 2015, supporting staff training in diversity, inclusion and cultural competence to better serve subscribers, and was head of NHP’s Domestic Violence Initiative, to educate and train staff and community health center partners, from 2008 to 2015. Prior to joining NHP, Ms. Bettano worked with Cigna Healthcare, most recently as Director of Provider Relations for the New England Region, where she oversaw contracting and managing of Cigna’s HMO and PPO provider networks, including more than 100 hospitals and 10,000 physicians in five states. Ms. Bettano is a graduate of the Geiger Gibson Capstone Program in Health Policy and Leadership at George Washington University, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Leadership Institute, and the LeadBoston Program. She received her BA in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State College.
