The National Health Care for the Homeless Council defines medical respite care for homeless persons as "acute and post-acute care for those who are too ill or frail to recover from a physical illness or injury on the streets, but are not ill enough to be in a hospital." This can consist of short-term, residential care that allows individuals the opportunity to rest in a safe environment while accessing medical care and other supportive services. This session will address administrative, financial, operational, and legal issues involved in planning and implementing a medical respite program. Presenters will outline challenges and opportunities in creating the program and explore different models and partnerships created to implement it.

Led by a health center CEO and HRSA National Cooperative Agreement Partner, this session will share not only the significance and benefit of planning but also provide realistic tools and experiences for all health centers considering, beginning, or refining their strategic planning process.
