This information bulletin summarizes federal and state laws that protect volunteers of nonprofit organizations, as well as private insurance options. This bulletin addresses the Volunteer Protection Act, the Federal Tort Claims Act, state liability protections, and private insurance policies that limit a volunteer's risk including commercial general liability policies and directors and officers liability coverage.
