Michael Steele made history in 2003 as the first African American elected to statewide office as Lt. Governor of Maryland, and again when he took the helm as Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) in 2009. As Maryland’s Lt. Governor Michael Steele’s priorities included support for minority businesses, improving public education, and expanding economic development. As head of the RNC, his commitment to grassroots organization and party building at the state and local levels produced 12 governorships and the greatest share of state legislative seats since 1928 (over 760 seats). Steele currently appears as a political analyst for MSNBC and has appeared on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. His writings on law, business and politics have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The Hill.com, The Grio.com, Politico.com and BET.com, among others. He is also the host of The Michael Steele Podcast.
