Maria Michaels serves under CDC’s Director of Public Health Science and Surveillance, bringing HIT, healthcare, and research perspectives from her previous roles to break down siloes and use technology to transform data into action in healthcare and public health.
She previously served at CMS as Technical Lead and Program Manager for HITECH Clinical Quality Measure Policy and Operations and the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI’s) Cancer Human Biobank. She worked extensively in academia with Virginia Commonwealth University, directing the Meaningful Use program across its hospitals and clinics, and Johns Hopkins University, developing and managing a large research program. She holds degrees in Biology and Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University, and a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.
