Lacy Smith, MD, FAAFP is co-founder and Deputy CEO, Chief of Operations, and Chief Medical Officer of Cahaba Medical Care. Since 2012 she has overseen the opening and implementation of 25 new community health center sites in underserved areas bringing services to the low-income and uninsured, as well as primary care training and jobs. She also serves as co-founder, Deputy DIO and Sr. Associate Program Director of the Cahaba Family Medicine Residency.
During her tenure, Cahaba Medical Care has been nationally recognized by HRSA as a “Health Center Quality Leader” eight years in a row (2015-2022), recognizing a clinical team that achieved clinical performance that is the top in the state of Alabama and in the top 10% among all health centers nationwide.
Dr. Smith has particular interests in health care systems, clinical quality, and rural health. She was recently recognized as a member of the 2021 Class of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women Leaders as one of the Women to Watch.
