Dr. John B. Waits, MD, CPE, FAAFP is a practicing, board-certified Family Medicine and Obstetrics physician who serves as the co-founding CEO of Cahaba Medical Care, and the co-founding Program Director and DIO of the Cahaba+UAB Family Medicine Residency (both with Dr. Lacy Smith). Cahaba Medical Care is a Community Health Center, and the Cahaba+UAB Family Medicine Residency is an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency and Teaching Health Center, accepting and graduating 20 residents per year, on 4 campues – one in rural Central Alabama, and another in Alabama’s Black Belt Region; and two urban sites in the West End community in Birmingham, and another urban campus at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB).
Dr. Waits has a particular interest in health care policy and how it touches women and children, the care of the uninsured and underinsured, and rural health issues. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Partnership for Children, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors., and the Alabama Primary Health Care Association.
