Dr. Spegman's educational training involved an undergraduate degree from Colgate University, master’s degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, and residency training in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident/Assistant Chief of Service in the Department of Medicine. He served in the National Health Service Corps at El Rio Community Health Center and currently is Chief Clinical Officer at El Rio in Tucson. Dr. Spegman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and was recognized as Clinical Leader of the Year by the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Physicians in 2011. He is also a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador.
