Salina Family Healthcare Center (SFHC) hired Derek Pihl in 2014 as a staff pharmacist for its in-house pharmacy. He was promoted to Director of Pharmacy that same year and then to Executive Director of Pharmacy Services in 2020. In 2023, he was promoted to Chief Pharmacy Officer and is now responsible for pharmacy services and processes throughout the organization. Derek supervises the pharmacy manager, clinical pharmacy supervisor, and 340B pharmacy program analyst positions and collaborates with all clinic staff to increase patient access to care, including affordable prescription drugs. In addition to his internal duties, Derek advocates for SFHC and health center patient interests outside the organization. Derek was president of the National Community Pharmacists Association student chapter at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and graduated in 2005. He remains active in state and national pharmacy organizations, including serving on the Apexus FQHC 340B Advisory Council, regularly speaking at conferences, and assisting state and national associations with 340B-related issues.
