Ashley Simpson Baird, Ph.D. is the Director of Research and Policy at Briya Public Charter School in Washington, DC. Briya is a two-generation school serving parents and their preschool age children across four locations in the District, three of which co-locate with Mary’s Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center. At Briya Dr. Simpson Baird conducts research studies and program evaluations, develops school-level policies, and leads local advocacy efforts to further Briya’s mission. In 2021 she was elected to serve as a member of the Alexandria City Public School Board. Dr. Simpson Baird is a former English Learner and bilingual education teacher. She is widely published in mass media outlets, practitioner publications, and peer-reviewed journals. She holds degrees from the Pennsylvania State University (B.A.), the School for International Training (M.A.T.), and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.). She began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia and is bilingual in English and Spanish. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and three children.
